Sunday, June 22, 2025Hello Roth Families and Friends,It is hot. And, whether you’re reading this on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. That is a fact.
Due to the extreme heat, school has been canceled for our 7th graders on Monday and Tuesday. The only students who will be in attendance on Monday are our Checkpoint A (World Language) exam takers. To ensure as comfortable a test-taking experience as possible for these students, we have relocated exams to available air-conditioned parts of our building. We will have staff up front to guide students to their testing location on Monday morning – normal arrival time.
For our 7th graders, we are still on for the official last day of school on Wednesday, June 25. It will be an A.M. half-day. We look forward to wishing you a happy and safe summer vacation.
Please continue reading for some news and upcoming events/dates.
Spring Fest 2025: Every opportunity that we have had to celebrate our students this school year has been an absolute pleasure. And, Spring Fest was no exception. Students enjoyed seeing their favorite Roth staff splash in the dunk tank! They held nothing back when more Roth staff braved our pie-in-the-face station. Our 3 vs. 3 basketball and 5 vs. 5 soccer tournaments were competitive, high-energy, and an excellent example of our students rising to excellence. I’d like to thank our students, families, and staff for making this event – and this school year – what it has been. Special thanks to our Roth Parent Group for volunteering, and seeing our students and staff having a great time together.
Class of 2025 Commencement and Congrats: I didn’t personally get to work with our graduating seniors, but the majority of my career has been at the high school level. I still get that familiar sense of accomplishment, pride, and good fortune when it comes to seeing seniors off to whatever future they choose to walk into. To the Rush-Henrietta Class of 2025: congratulations, and may your near future find you in good health, sound spirit, clear eyes, and full hearts. Commencement is on Friday, June 27. The ceremony will be held at the RIT Gordon Field House at 7 p.m.
Backpack Reminder: Starting in September, students at Roth Junior High will be expected to store backpacks in their lockers during the school day. This decision is made with student safety in mind. Our hallways, cafeteria, common spaces, and classrooms can become very crowded, and backpacks contribute to the congestion. This change is important to ensure a smooth flow of foot traffic. Though student backpacks should be stored in lockers, students will be able to carry smaller bags such as small crossbody bags and small purses/totes. The idea is for students to still be able to carry essential personal items. Additionally, full-size student backpacks often have multiple pockets, which can make it easier to hide cell phones, personal devices, or other prohibited items. We ask that all backpacks be in lockers during the school day to minimize this risk. For more information, please refer to my E-News from May 31, 2025.
Incoming 7th Grade Summer Orientation (WEB): On Thursday, August 28, our 7th graders will be invited to Roth Junior High to participate in a student-led orientation. Invites will be sent out this summer, and I will post more information – including time and what to bring – as the date gets closer. Families should plan on dropping off and picking up, as this event is intended for students.
September Open House: I know we still have two glorious months of summer between now and the start of our new school year; however, I’d like families to already save the date. Roth’s Open House is on Wednesday, September 17. The event, which starts at 6:30 p.m., is intended to give families an opportunity to meet our teachers, mental health team, and administrators. This event is for all Roth Junior High students and families; however, I have found it to be especially important for our 7th grade families. We will share more information in August, and we look forward to seeing many of you there.
Open Campus and Lockers: Especially as we move to a backpacks-in-lockers policy at Roth Junior High, we will be opening campus in late August for students to visit, walk our halls, and practice opening their lockers. Specific dates will be shared in the future, but I’m already excited to see our halls full again.
Upcoming Events:- Checkpoint A (Exam): World Languages - Monday, June 23
- Last School Day for 7th Grade - Wednesday, June 25
