Thursday, March 13, 2025Hello Roth Families and Friends,We have 15 weeks to go. 15 weeks. I am an English teacher, so please forgive the repetition. But, this school year is really speeding by. As I have written recently, there is much to celebrate. And there are still areas to develop. I believe there will always be opportunities for growth.
Over the past two days, students will have heard messaging around social media, managing conflict, and being upstanders. On the latter, I’d like to repeat (and directly quote) a message that I shared back in November: “Years ago, I attended an excellent assembly in which a group of motivational speakers shared the difference between the two. Students are bystanders when they see or hear about something that may lead to conflict, and they do not take an active stand to report it to an adult. Students are bystanders when they stand, stare and (sadly) record an act of aggression. Students are bystanders when they know there is something wrong with a situation, but they ignore it and look or walk the other way. I am asking our families to talk to our students about becoming upstanders. The upstander does not laugh at, record (and post), share, or ignore unsafe and/or harassing behavior. The upstander speaks up for what is right, and what is safe. What is safe is typically what is right. The upstander stands up for what is right, and acts with positive and safe intention. I am asking our students to stand up.” Click here for that original E-News.
To be clear - the vast majority of our students do the right thing, the right way, on a daily basis. My goal is to raise awareness and expectations for all of our students. If Roth truly is a rising tide, then we should lift all. Please continue to check in on your student’s social media activity. Please continue to share anything that you find concerning or harmful with a member of our team. And, please continue to know that I appreciate your support as we push our students to grow.

We’ve got some beautiful weather on its way. I, for one, am looking forward to being outside this weekend. Enjoying the warmth. Breathing in the fresh air of late-winter/early-spring. And expressing gratitude for this tremendous responsibility that I have, as your principal.
