Thursday, January 30, 2025Hello Roth Families and Friends,
Three days into our 2nd Semester, and I am happy to announce that students at Roth Junior High are settling into their new courses and/or routines. A major change for this new semester is our move of study halls into our Cafe. Teachers are doing a fantastic job setting the foundation for a productive and safe study hall environment as we roll into these next 20 weeks. I am confident that the same is happening in our half-year courses that just got started this week. Please continue to reach out to our counselors, administrators, and teachers if you have any questions.
We have an exciting weekend coming up, including the last few contests of the modified athletics season and our much anticipated production of Shrek the Musical Jr. Please continue to practice safe driving and parking practices when coming to campus for pickup or as a spectator. Especially this Friday: we have a boys basketball game at 5 p.m. and opening night of our musical at 7 p.m. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know and work with such talented students, and I’m excited to continue our rise at Roth Junior High.
Here are some upcoming events, requests, and reminders.
Roth Parent Survey: As an R-H resident, it has been such an honor to lead in the community that I have called home for 16 years. At previous districts, I learned the value of family and community engagement. It truly takes a village. The work that we hope to accomplish need not be confined to the walls and halls of Roth Junior High. It is my hope that families feel comfortable and welcome on campus. We have a wealth of experience, information, and resources that we each bring to any conversation or situation. Please take a few moments to complete this Parent/Guardian Feedback survey to help guide our way forward. Thank you in advance.
D.C. Trip Update: To all families of 8th graders attending this spring’s D.C. trip, please read the following from your advisors.
Attention 8th Grade D.C. Trip parents/guardians: Students were offered the medical paperwork that is required to go on the trip two weeks ago. If they did not get it they can stop by either Mr. Mallaber or Ms. Flood's room to pick it up. It is also posted in the Google Classroom. Any medication, including over-the-counter medication, needs to have a doctor's office approve it by completing the last page of the packet. The medical packet and final payment are due by Friday, February 28, 2025. If you have questions or concerns please reach out to tmallaber@rhnet.org and jflood@rhnet.org.
Shrek the Musical Jr: It’s almost showtime. Our students have been working hard prepping for this big weekend. They’ll be performing a sneak peek for their Roth peers on Friday morning. Again, with multiple events at Roth on Friday night, leave additional time for parking. Please read the official announcement below and use the link to purchase tickets. Good luck to our cast and crew!
Roth will be ogre-the-moon when Roth Junior High School students present their production of Shrek the Musical Jr. The family-friendly musical comedy follows the adventures of an ogre named Shrek who sets off on a quest to save a princess from a dragon. However, it turns out that in order to ultimately succeed, Shrek must battle an even bigger obstacle: learning how to believe in himself and open his heart to others. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday, January 31, and 3 p.m. Saturday, February 1, in the Roth Junior High auditorium. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here. Thanks for all of your support!
Roth Junior High Dance: Tickets are now on sale for next Friday’s dance. The cost is $10 per student. The dance is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 7. We are looking forward to dancing the night (early evening) away. Big shout out to our freshman class officers for organizing this event.
District Parent Satisfaction Survey: Our annual parent survey is coming soon! This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to let us know what we are doing well, and what we can do differently. All responses are anonymous; participation is voluntary but encouraged. The survey will be open Monday, February 3, through Sunday, February 16, and is available in a number of languages. More information will be shared soon. We appreciate your time and insight!
We have two full weeks before our next break. Let’s please encourage our students to come to school each day prepared to learn and grow. Let’s please reiterate the importance of respect for self, peers, and elders. It’s a new semester, and I believe our students will present us many more opportunities to celebrate.
