Hello Roth Families and Students,And just like that, the first quarter is in the rearview. The first two months have flown by, with a flurry of activity. The vast majority of the time has been positive, and any challenges presented have provided early opportunities to develop and grow stronger as a school community. I make it a point to get out into our halls, classrooms and common spaces to create positive interactions with our students and staff. Fist bumps and “Good morning!” greetings are aplenty. Please continue to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
We have our next Parent (or Guardian) Group meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, November 4. This is an excellent opportunity to meet families who may have similar questions, suggestions and hopes for their child’s Roth Junior High experience. We have Parent/Guardian-Teacher Conference days the week of Thanksgiving (Monday, November 25 from 1 - 8 p.m.; and, Tuesday, November 26 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.). Similarly, this an excellent opportunity to meet your student’s teachers and get a sense of what school has been like from their perspective. Families should have received a postcard with more information regarding our Parent/Guardian-Teacher Conference days, and I will re-share that info early next week.
A cornerstone of my first year at Roth is family engagement. I want families to feel welcome, invited, and appreciated. Let’s be partners when it comes to developing our students as learners and young adults. Please take some time this weekend to congratulate your student on successfully completing the first quarter. If we equate completion with success, then we can begin those conversations with a round of applause. And then we can expand on what success can and should look like for your student in specific areas. Roth Junior High is an exciting place to be this year, and I look forward to our continued rise to excellence.
Here are some gentle notes and reminders:
Winter Sports Season Registration: Registration for the 2024-2025 winter sports season is underway. You can register your student at www.rhnet.org/clearance. Please be sure to have all necessary documentation available.
- Practices for JV/Varsity begin November 18, and for Modified begin December 2.
- Please visit the District Website for a list of contact information for winter sports and coaches.
News from Roth JHS Library: A special thanks to Mrs. Leader and Ms. Thomas for the excellent work they have done to bring Roth’s library back to an environment of research, inspiration and excellence. Here is the November 2024 newsletter from our library.
Washington, D.C., Trip News (from our D.C. Trip advisors, Ms. Flood and Mr. Mallaber): Attention 8th Grade DC parents/guardians: The fundraiser has begun. During lunch both Thursday and Friday of this past week, Mr. Mallaber passed out the fundraising books to any student who signed up for the trip, who wanted it. If your child did not get one and you want to fundraise, please have them come to Mr. Mallaber or Ms. Flood's rooms (313 and 311) on Monday, November 4, to pick one up. Inside the envelope is a book and a letter explaining the fundraising, as well as how to set up an online order portal for your out-of-town friends and family to purchase books. Books are $25 each. If you do not end up selling the book your child brings home, we ask that you please return it. Students will earn 50% (less tax) for each in-person sale and 40% (less tax) for each online sale. Please reach out to Ms. Flood or Mr. Mallaber with any questions.
Student Clubs: WE WANT YOU to join our clubs! When students become involved in clubs, they are more engaged with school. Please click here for Roth Junior High’s student clubs. Student clubs provide an opportunity for students to connect with their peers and our faculty around common interest areas. Clubs also help students to connect and socialize. The majority of Roth clubs meet monthly after school, on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays. For more information about a specific club, please encourage your student to email or contact the advisor directly, or visit our school website.
Visiting Campus: Families are welcome to visit Roth JHS for scheduled meetings with our administrators, counselors or other related staff. When coming into the school, all visitors must enter through the main entrance. A photo ID is required to enter the building. *NOTE: During dismissal, we ask that visitors wait until school buses have loaded and departed. This will help us ensure the safety of and smooth departure for our students. We appreciate your willingness to partner with us to meet your student’s learning, wellness, and safety needs.
Alright folks, here’s to a positive, healthy and productive weekend AND 2nd Marking Period.
Best,
Omar Hussain
Principal
