    Hello Roth Families and Friends,

We have a busy week ahead. 7th and 8th graders will sit for the ELA State Test on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Please note that we will be following a modified bell/class schedule on both days. Student Council and our WEB leaders will be celebrating Spring Spirit Week by encouraging (and tallying) grade-level participation during our dress-up days. Teachers will be finalizing 3rd marking period grades, while also preparing students for the 4th (and final) quarter. Spring sports seasons are in full swing, and we’re all anticipating the warmer weather. These next ten weeks will be active. Before long, I’ll be authoring the final few E-News of the 2024-2025 school year. Active is an appropriate word to describe this first year for me at Roth Junior High. We’ve made some gains, and we’ve identified areas to continue to develop -- in and out of classrooms.

To our 7th and 8th graders getting ready to sit for the ELA exam: you got this! To their families: please encourage and motivate our young scholars to give it their very best effort. To our 9th graders getting ready for their last (less than) ten weeks at Roth Junior High: set yourselves up for success as you transition to the Senior High School. To their families: I’m so grateful to have been able to share at least some time with our students.

Alrighty. I hope that we are able to enjoy a smooth start to the week at Roth Junior High. And, if and when we are presented with opportunities to test our mettle, I hope that we are found ready for success. *You can find our modified schedule for State Tests (Tuesday and Wednesday) here.

Student Council Spirit Week (and Pep Assembly): Our Spring Spirit Week starts tomorrow. Here are the dress-up day themes:

    • Monday, April 7: Pajama Day (think warm, comfy evening wear)
    • Tuesday, April 8: Cultural Day (show off some traditional attire from around the world)
    • Wednesday, April 9: Anything but a Backpack Day (back by popular demand)
    • Thursday, April 10: Teachers Dress Like Students (and vice versa; enjoy)
    • Friday, April 11: Hawaiian Day (because we’re ready for summer)

Roth Library News: Here are some updates and news from Mrs. Leader and Miss Thomas: Throughout April, we’re bringing some foolish fun to the library with our "Cat Surprise" activity! There are 40 cat memes hidden around the library – can you find them?

If you spot one, bring it to Mrs. Leader or Miss Thomas to claim a sweet treat for each meme you discover (limit five per student/day). While you're there, be sure to grab a book to read over break!

Throughout the five Mondays in March, Roth students and staff participated in an exciting head-to-head competition to determine the coolest, cutest pet! Many created creative campaign posters, and the voting was incredibly close and intense. After weeks of anticipation, we are thrilled to announce this year’s winner: Scotty the Cow, beloved pet of Mrs. Marlow! Congratulations to Scotty and a big thank you to everyone who participated!

Incoming 7th-Grade Orientation: Sixth graders from Sherman and their parents/guardians are invited to an Incoming 7th Grade Orientation meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 21, in the Roth Junior High auditorium. This orientation will give parents/guardians an opportunity to learn about the transition to 7th grade, and will include many of the common questions and differences that students may experience in September. Please click here to learn more about this event.

Moving-Up Informational Meeting: This event is new this year. Families of current Roth 8th and 9th graders are invited to participate in an informational meeting to learn about the transition to high school. This event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in the Roth auditorium. At Roth JHS, our 8th graders transition from junior high to high school in-house. Our current 9th graders get more of an authentic experience because of the building move to the Senior High School. Coming from a high school background myself, I hope to start a tradition during which we help students and families understand the importance of these first two high school years. More information will be provided as this event gets closer.

Budget Vote May 20: We have opportunities for you to learn about the 2025-2026 budget proposal and the process that school districts must follow in developing the budget. Please join us at 6 p.m. either April 23 at Henrietta Public Library or on May 1 at Guardian Angels Church.

You can also ask your budget-related questions here. The annual budget vote and Board of Education election will take place 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 at the Transportation and Operations Center, 1133 Lehigh Station Road, Henrietta.
