Hello Roth Families and Friends,
Welcome to the final week of our third marking period. Though we are preparing for upcoming State Tests and Spring Break, there is still plenty of time to help our students develop productive, responsible, and engaged study/learning habits. Please continue to encourage our students to advocate for their learning needs, and to put forth their best effort. And, please encourage our students to apply positive, healthy, and respectful practices in all parts of their Roth Junior High experience.
Attendance Matters: I have always been a big fan of sports. Honestly, there is likely not a sport or competitive event that I would not willingly spectate (and/or learn). As our Modified spring athletics season gets underway, I would like to share about the importance of attendance. On-time daily attendance is one of the most important prerequisites for student success. I believe that the most important ability is availability. By regularly attending school, students are giving themselves and their teachers ample opportunity to support the learning process, and to build successful learning habits. This applies for all R-H students, not just our student athletes. With less than three full months ahead of us, please continue to do your part to get our students to school on time, and on a daily basis. If you are in need of additional support to motivate and encourage daily attendance, please reach out to a member of our team. Here are some helpful contacts:
- Ms. Sewruk, Social Worker: msewruk@rhnet.org
- Mr. Maney, Social Worker: pmaney@rhnet.org
- Mrs. LaPlaca, Gr. 7 Counselor: rlaplaca@rhnet.org
- Mrs. Hernandez, Gr. 8 Counselor: rhernandez@rhnet.org
- Ms. Prinzi, Gr. 9 Counselor: pprinzi@rhnet.org
Upcoming ELA State Test: In two weeks, our 7th and 8th graders will sit for the New York State English Language Arts exam. On the mornings of Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9, students will have an opportunity to showcase their skills. Though student test scores are typically not returned until late-summer, school districts use standardized testing data to identify areas of strength, and areas that need additional support. Teachers at Roth Junior High have worked hard since September to help students develop the skills needed to be successful learners. These skills are not just for the ELA and math state tests. These skills are for academic success, period. And, we have two opportunities in the very near future to put these skills to the test. Good luck to all of our student scholars!
East Henrietta Road Detour: As a reminder, the stretch of East Henrietta Road between Lehigh Station and Goodburlet will be closed to through-traffic starting Tuesday, April 1. Here are some alternate travel routes I shared in last Friday’s E-News:
- Travel south on Pinnacle Road to west on Goodburlet Road to south on East Henrietta Road – Roth will be on the left
- Travel south on Middle Road to east on Erie Station Road to north on East Henrietta – Roth will be on the right
Again, bus traffic will be impacted. For our families who drop off each morning, please plan for additional travel time. And, to all Roth Junior High families who drop off each morning, please continue to use the designated Drop-off Area. The bus loop is for buses only during our morning runs.
Roth Parent Group, Budget Presentation: Please join us at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, for a Budget Presentation. The online meeting will give Board Member (and Roth Liaison), Mrs. Rachel Sherman, an opportunity to present the 2025-2026 R-H budget to our families. I will share a link for the Google Meet as we get closer to the event.
Incoming 7th Grade Orientation: Sherman students and parents/guardians are invited to an Incoming 7th Grade Orientation meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 21, in the Roth Junior High auditorium. This orientation will give families an opportunity to learn about the transition to 7th grade, and will include many of the common questions and differences that students may experience in September. Please click here for more information on this event.
Moving-Up Informational Meeting: This event is new this year, and a result of feedback from Roth Parent Group. Families of current Roth 8th and 9th graders are invited to participate in an informational meeting to learn about the transition to high school. This event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in the Roth auditorium. At Roth JHS, our 8th graders transition from junior high to high school, in-house. Our current 9th graders get more of an authentic experience because of the building move to the Senior High School. Coming from a high school background myself, I hope to start a tradition during which we help students and families understand the importance of these first two high school years. More information will be provided as this event gets closer.
2025-2026 District Transportation Forms (Final Reminder): These forms are due on Tuesday. Transportation forms for Child Care and Split Custody for next school year are due on April 1. It’s never too early to start planning for next year. Please complete the appropriate form and send it to the Rush-Henrietta Transportation Department.
Budget Vote on May 20: We have many opportunities for you to learn more about the 2025-2026 budget proposal and the process that school districts must follow in developing the budget. Please join us at one of these upcoming sessions. Each one begins at 6 p.m.
- Rush United Methodist Church, Thursday, April 3
- Bhutanese Community Center, 201 Scottsville-West Henrietta Road, Friday, April 4
- Henrietta Public Library, Wednesday, April 23
- Guardian Angels Church, Thursday, May 1
You can also ask your budget-related questions here. The annual budget vote and Board of Education election will take place 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 at the Transportation and Operations Center, 1133 Lehigh Station Road, Henrietta.
