Roth Principal's Message from Omar Hussain

-
Sunday, June 15, 2025Hello Roth Families and Friends,Thank you for all of your support, feedback, questions, and trust during my first year as principal of Roth Junior High. I am grateful for this role, and the work that I have been able to do with you and your kids over the past 10 months.
Friday night’s Freshman Sunset/Lock-In was a huge hit, and a special way to say farewell to the Class of 2028. On behalf of the advisors and chaperones who planned (and supervised) this event: thank you, Roth Junior High families, for a really smooth dropoff and pickup experience. Here are some pictures from the night.
It is time. Time for Regents exams. Time for 7th grade half-days. Time to clean out hallway and P.E. lockers. Time for end-of-year celebrations, and exclamations to “Have a great summer!” We’re finishing in style tomorrow with our Spring Fest celebration. After 3rd period, students will have an opportunity to engage in a variety of different activities. The day will end in the big gym, as we cheer on the two teams competing in the championship game of our 3 vs 3 basketball tournament.
Please encourage our students to finish strong. To make sure assignments have been completed and submitted to teachers. To make time at home to study and prepare for upcoming exams. I’m excited for our students to show what they know. Please continue reading for exam times, bus pickup/dropoff information, and our 7th grade half-day schedule.
End-of-Year Schedule: Monday is our final regular school day of the year for all students. Starting on Tuesday, our 7th graders will move to a half-day schedule. They will be present in the building opposite the time/s our 8th and 9th graders will be in the building for testing. Our 7th graders will have morning half-days on 6/17, 6/18, 6/20, 6/24, and 6/25. On these morning half-days, students will dismiss at 10:30 a.m. On Monday, June 23, our 7th graders have their only afternoon half-day. On this date, please have your student/s ready for bus pickup as early as 9:30 a.m. There will be fewer students on our bus routes, so use the StopFinder App for estimated times.
Students (and families) should pay special attention to the specific time they need to attend, and the bus pick-up/drop-off schedule below. To all students taking local final exams and Regents: you got this!
Again, this will be an excellent opportunity for families to use our new StopFinder App to track bus routes and locations. Primary contacts should have already received information to sign up; but, please call our Transportation Center at (585) 359-5380 if you have questions.
Regents/Exam Schedule (Grades 8 and 9)
Students and families, here is an idea of bus pickup/dropoff times for these last two weeks:
- Early morning pick-up: Regular pick-up time
- Mid-day pick-up: 9:30 to 10 a.m.
- Mid-day departure: 10:30 to 10:45 a.m.
- End-of-day departure: 2:30 to 2:40 p.m.
Again, please refer to both of the above linked documents for more information.
2025-2026 Backpack Reminder: Starting in September, students at Roth Junior High will be expected to store backpacks in their lockers during the school day. This decision is made with student safety in mind. Our hallways, cafeteria, common spaces, and classrooms can become very crowded, and backpacks contribute to the congestion. This change is important to ensure a smooth flow of foot traffic. Though student backpacks should be stored in lockers, students will be able to carry smaller bags such as small crossbody bags; and, small purses/totes. The idea is for students to still be able to carry essential personal items. Additionally, full-size student backpacks often have multiple pockets, which can make it easier to hide cell phones, personal devices, or other prohibited items. We ask that all backpacks be in lockers during the school day to minimize this risk. For more information, please refer to my E-News from May 31, 2025.
Faculty, staff, and administrators realize this will be a significant change for current (and incoming) Roth students. As such, we will set our students up for success during the first several weeks of September with planned activities to support this new policy.
